Louisville Water’s work to install new pipes between our two water treatment plants will soon shift to a new intersection. Beginning the week of October 13, our crews are scheduled to tackle the intersection of River Road and Zorn Avenue. Drivers can expect lane closures and new detours. Please follow the signs to access homes, businesses, and parks in the area.
Zorn Avenue has long been an important thoroughfare in our pipeline network. As we continue building for the future, Vice President of Communications Kelley Dearing Smith gives us a glimpse into our rich history stretching from the Louisville Water Tower.
We understand your frustrations, but here’s why this work is important.
Louisville Water is installing two new residual lines to remove byproducts from the water treatment process. This is necessary because our filtration process produces residual solids that must be removed from the treatment plant. The current line, built in 1971, is reaching the end of its useful life, so we are building two new lines for increased redundancy. The system is critical to daily water production at Crescent Hill.
Looking ahead:
Workers have made great progress as they move east toward the B.E. Payne Water Treatment Plant in Prospect.
We are currently working in Zone 2 near Lime Kiln Lane but we expect to move out of that zone next week. We began working in Zone 3 on River Road near Juniper Beach Road earlier this week. The entire project will continue into 2026. Our goal is to finish most of the work on River Road by next summer.
