Employee Profile: DaRon McDonald, Business Systems Analyst I

Worked at Louisville Water since 2013

Employee profile DaRonThe employees in Louisville Water’s many departments depend on each other to deliver high-quality drinking water 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Those departments fit like a puzzle and Business Systems Analyst DaRon McDonald works to piece them together.

“I’m definitely a puzzle-solver at heart. I help bridge the gap between business users and development resources by analyzing needs, managing applications, and ensuring systems support business goals,” he said. “I also assist with testing and validation to make sure solutions function as expected before and after implementation along with supporting current business users within the company.”

In other words, McDonald makes sure that many of the applications and software programs used by customer service reps, meter readers, and engineers run smoothly.

This may sound challenging, but that’s what McDonald loves about his career at Louisville Water.

“What excites me the most about my role is the variety of challenges I get to tackle every day—no two days are ever the same,” he said. “This keeps me energized and gives me the opportunity to dig into problems, research solutions, and make a real impact.”

Employee profile DaRonAlthough he often works independently, McDonald partners with other departments in the company on several projects.

“I really enjoy collaborating with people across different areas of the organization because building strong relationships and working as a team is something I truly value,” he said.

For someone interested in a business systems or information technology (IT) career, McDonald offered the following advice:

Focus on building a strong foundation and get as much hands-on experience as possible. Learn the basics and don’t be afraid to troubleshoot and stay curious. IT is constantly evolving, so being willing to learn and communicate effectively is just as important as technical skills. Nothing is ever out of your reach, and we have people in IT that are approachable and willing to share their knowledge.”

When he’s not hammering away at his computer, McDonald serves in many roles at his church, 1st Philadelphia Independent Ministries.

“I also enjoy online gaming, movies (anything Marvel or DC), and the LA Lakers!”
