Keep the Derby Spirit Flowing with Louisville Pure Tap®

The Kentucky Derby is Louisville’s biggest time to shine on the international stage. The Kentucky Derby Festival (KDF) works year-round planning dozens of events leading up to the first Saturday in May. Louisville Water is thrilled to play a role in the festivities.

On April 12, a team of employees welcomed golfers to Seneca Golf Course to swing a club for a shot at a million bucks! It’s become a tradition for the team to volunteer at the $1 Million Dollar Hole-in-One Golf Contest. Not even brief storms could dampen their spirits.

Block party with Pure TapThe next day brought clear skies and sunshine for the 3rd Annual KDF Derby Block Party at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in the Russell neighborhood of West Louisville. A steady stream of people enjoyed a full day of live music, food trucks, bounce houses, a shopping marketplace, and complimentary health screenings. Louisville Water provided unlimited refills of ice-cold Louisville Pure Tap®. We never get tired of seeing relieved faces after that first sip or hearing how we have some of the best water in the country. Our setup even allowed drive-up service for Louisville Metro Police.

Tour de Lou bike routeYou can bet cyclists felt just as relieved to hydrate with Louisville Pure Tap at the Tour de Lou on April 14, an even warmer spring day. Riders navigated along their choice of 20, 35, or 62.1-mile courses that started and ended in NuLu.

“The really cool thing is we set up our ‘bubblers’ which have multiple water fountain spouts. Many cyclists pulled over to fill up their reusable bottles to carry with them,” said Plumber Leader’s Assistant Scott Corbin, who helped set up the water stops for the race.

Switching gears to the Taste of Derby, a sold out crowd savored some of the best appetizers, entrees, and desserts for a good cause at Slugger Field on April 16. We were more than happy to help guests cleanse their palates and Drink Like a Local.

All proceeds benefited the Dare to Care Food Bank.

Looking ahead- it’s a marathon, not a sprint, literally on Saturday, April 27. Louisville Water is ready to serve up about 12,000 gallons of Pure Tap to fuel runners to the finish in the KDF mini/MARATHON with 15 water stops. We’ll see you on race day!
