Crews repair water main break in busy part of downtown

Louisville Water has a big job on Wednesday to repair a break on a 20-inch diameter water main at the intersection of Chestnut and Preston Streets. The pipe broke on Tuesday evening, buckling the road and sending thousands of gallons of water into the street. Louisville Water has closed the area around the break to safely make the repairs. We’re working with a few businesses that won’t have water service while the work is underway. It will take several days to fix the pipe and reopen the road. Water service will be restored as soon as possible.

The 20-inch pipe was installed in early 1930’s and connects to dozens of smaller water mains in the area to supply water to businesses.
