Louisville Water Company has over 24,000 fire hydrants in its service area. These hydrants are flow-tested and maintained every year by dedicated crews to ensure they are in good working order.
Have questions or concerns on hydrants? Submit your requests below where appropriate.
Report a damaged/hit hydrant
Let us know if you see a fire hydrant in need of repair – one that was hit by a car, broken, leaning, etc.
Request Hydrant Painting
We paint our hydrants on a regular basis, but with over 24,000 in our service area, some need our attention faster than planned. Did you know colors are determined by local fire statues and recommendations from the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA)? In general, county hydrants are yellow and metro hydrants are orange. Private hydrants normally follow NFPA guidelines (mostly yellow or orange) but sometimes they are red.
Request Hydrant Flow Data
Hydrant flow tests are conducted to measure pressure and flow in the system.
Move Fire Hydrant Request
If you want to move a hydrant, send us information on your project. We will review your request and provide you with a cost estimate to move it.
