Louisville Water Helps Celebrate New Community Space in Parkland

Parkland Plaza welcomed families to a brand new spot for entertainment and for kids to play. The plaza, featuring a community garden space, playground, and performance stage, kicked things off with a grand opening celebration on July 23.

The park also provides easy access to delicious Louisville Pure Tap® courtesy of a brand new drinking fountain, which Louisville Water helped fund. It was definitely needed on Saturday with record heat.

Pure Tap® Public Relations Specialist Kayla Hanak first learned about the Parkland Plaza project from Center for Neighborhoods and Trees Louisville. “They reached out to me last year, really just to get information about the ‘how’ of installing an outdoor fountain. I loved the concept of the project – converting a derelict parking lot into a green space for community gathering,” Hanak said.

Despite the sizzling temperatures, a decent crowd showed up for the grand opening. Louisville Water’s Education & Outreach team provided cups and coolers with chilled Pure Tap to guests. Kids had a chance to build their own pipelines too while learning about the process of getting water from the Ohio River to their faucets.

Parkland Plaza is located near South 28th and Dumesnil streets in the Parkland neighborhood of West Louisville.
