Project Engineer Yolanda Allen has worked at Louisville Water for nearly 30 years and she’s been an integral part of operations at Crescent Hill Water Treatment Plant.

“I’ve worked with the company for a little over 28 years in the Production and Process Engineering group. I perform project design and management/inspection during construction of projects involving upgrades, renovations, or installation of treatment plant processes, water storage facilities, and booster pump stations,” Allen said.

To sum it up, she keeps the equipment going that produces Louisville Pure Tap®.

As a plant engineer, she’s worked on different processes, systems, and projects.

“All of the projects (I’ve worked on) have involved multiple engineering disciplines. The different aspects of the projects have kept my job interesting. Louisville Water has a lot of history behind it. I love the fact that we produce a quality product that is a necessity for every living thing,” she said.

When asked what she likes most about her job, Allen said her coworkers and working with them to complete projects.

“I care about our product and I think we do a good job of promoting it as well.”

For future engineers hoping to follow in her footsteps, Allen offered key words of advice:

“Put the work in! You will have challenges, but the impact you’ll make will be rewarding. Embrace your curiosity and learn from your experiences and the experiences of others. Treat others with respect and establish good relationships.”

When she’s not working, Allen said she enjoys spending time with her family.

“I am married and we have two daughters (one is a sophomore at University of Kentucky and the other is a senior at Eastern High School). Over the years, my daughters have kept me busy with their activities. I also enjoy traveling, photography, and at times, just relaxing at home,” she said.

On Thursday, July 28, Allen will have even more time to spend with her family as she officially retires from Louisville Water.

“I’ve been an advocate for Louisville Water for a long time. We have the best water in the country, probably the world!” she said. “I have been fortunate to work with a great group of people at the plant. This is what I’ll miss the most.”

Congratulations, Yolanda and cheers to a happy retirement!
