Louisville Water on Tap: Key Ingredient for Brewing & Hydrating

Brew feast“I love Louisville Water. We have to have great water to make great beer. And Louisville has great water!” said Leah Dienes.

As owner and head brewer of Apocalypse Brew Works, Dienes knows the importance of using quality ingredients to make quality beer.

Louisville Water’s history with beer flows back to 1860 when we began operations. Brewers paid three cents for every barrel of beer they made. Today, the craft beer industry estimates it takes three to seven gallons of water to make one gallon of beer.

A variety of ales, IPAs, stouts, lagers, hard ciders, and much more were on tap at the Kentucky Craft Bash in Louisville. While guests were enjoying their favorites and tasting new brews, they were also filling up their cups with ice-cold, refreshing Louisville Pure Tap®!

Brew Fest“I’ve lived all over this country. I grew up here in Louisville; 18 years, been gone for 10. Let me tell you this- Phoenix, New York, Tennessee, (Jackson, Mississippi) that water does not compare to the beautiful limestone water and the great atmosphere of pure Kentucky tap local,” Sean Link said with genuine enthusiasm.

From Link’s endorsement at the Pure Tap tent to the Kentucky Hop Water booth, our customers recognize the value of high-quality drinking water.

“Having Louisville Pure Tap® as part of the water source that is Kentucky Hop Water has been absolutely, not just vital but it’s easy,” said the company’s founder, Michael Moeller. “It makes things so much easier on us to be able to not to have to strip away so much garbage from water and just have a great limestone-filtered water source already.”

Hop Water at brew festMoeller points to Kentucky’s past as he looks toward his future.

“This entire state has been built on a historic legacy of beverages in general, whether it’s spirits, beer, and now I hope to have hop water included in that conversation too.”

Nearly two dozen breweries currently use Louisville Water, and we often collaborate with local breweries to ensure our water is consistent.

We may be biased, but we think Link said it best as he drank his cup of Pure Tap.

“That’s the best damn water on the planet! You can write that down, best water on the planet. Thank you for being here. We love it!”

And you count on Louisville Water to be there to keep you safe and hydrated at this weekend’s J’town Summer Beer Fest and at the Frazier Summer Beer Fest on July 26.

Louisville Water is also a proud affiliate member of the Kentucky Guild of Brewers (KGB), a coalition of 60-plus breweries that serves as the primary voice and advocate for the state’s brewing industry.
