Employee Profile: Dakotah DeRoche, Project Engineer

Worked at Louisville Water since 2022

Dakotah D profileDakotah DeRoche is managing two high-profile projects that are having an impact on our communities: the Reservoir Relining Project and the Residual Line Project.

These projects are about more than just pumps and pipes. They’re critical to Louisville Water operations. They’re about maintaining infrastructure, supporting public health, and ensuring efficiency — even as each day brings DeRoche a new set of challenges, from overseeing the technical aspects of multi-million dollar upgrades to coordinating teams, contractors, and community stakeholders.

She came to Louisville Water with a master’s in civil engineering from the University of Louisville and more than a decade of experience as a project manager for a design consultant working in the water sector.

“Through my 12 years of experience in consulting, I worked on design of treatment plants, pump stations, pipelines, and CSO/SSO [Combined Sewer Overflow/Sanitary Sewer Overflow] storage facilities,” she said.

During those years, she “always heard great things about working at Louisville Water,” so when a project engineer position became available in the company’s production engineering group, “it seemed like a great opportunity to have a fulfilling and challenging position, while balancing the needs of my family.”

DeRoche now works out of the Crescent Hill Water Treatment Plant where she manages “various capital projects for improvements at our treatment plants and booster pump stations within the distribution system.”

She said the relining and residual line projects “have been challenging because they are large projects with major impacts to the public. I must balance keeping the projects on schedule and within budget while also working to minimize impacts to our community. I’m a bit of a people pleaser, so it can be frustrating at times realizing there’s no way to make everyone happy. But I think it also helps drive me to work hard and be a problem solver.”

“There are curveballs with every project,” she added, “but I’m thankful that I get to work with a supportive team of people here at Louisville Water.  Everyone is focused on finding solutions and moving forward. I’m proud of the work we do and what Louisville Water does every day behind the scenes to deliver clean water to our community.”

Dakotah D familyDeRoche is a mom to three girls (a two-year-old and 10-year-old twins), so she doesn’t have a lot of free time when she’s not working for Louisville Water, but when she can find the time, she likes to paint. She’s also a runner.

“One of my favorite places to run is the Parklands of Floyds Fork,” she said. “Last year, I completed a bucket-list item to run the entire Louisville Loop trail within the Parklands, which was over 19 miles.”

Her eagerness to take on challenging tasks will continue to serve her, Louisville Water, and the community well as she guides critical infrastructure improvements over the next several years.
