“We had about 615 visitors for the Cultural Pass Program from at least 38 different zip codes,” said Megan Jones, Louisville Water event operations supervisor.
Facilitated by the Fund for the Arts, Cultural Pass is annual summer program that offers Louisville-area young people and their families a way to experience arts and cultural activities provided by dozens of venues free of charge.
At the Louisville Water Tower, children dressed up like water company employees, went on scavenger hunts, worked puzzles, built their own model pipelines, and took tours of the grounds and facilities. In the WaterWorks Museum, they saw archives of historic photos, films, and memorabilia, some of which date from 1860.
“The Cultural Pass Program always brings in a diverse audience that may not have heard of the WaterWorks Museum,” Jones said. “We enjoy giving tours and helping tell the story of Louisville Water to all ages.”
The program has ended for the year, but you can tour the Tower on our next Open Day: Sunday, September 14. Tickets are $3 to $5. (Children four years old and under are always free.) You can reserve your spot in advance on Eventbrite and pay at the door (credit cards only). A government-issued ID is also required for anyone over 18. The Tower also hosts group tours and field trips.
