Worked at Louisville Water since 2018

Delivering drinking water to nearly a million people every day is a big responsibility. It’s a job that Louisville Water Plumber Leader Jermaine Toney takes seriously.

“Water is an essential element for life. As long as I can make sure that people have that, it feels good to make sure people have something that’s life-sustaining,” he said.

“Don’t let it get you flustered. Don’t let it get you bothered. Just grab the bull by the horns and go at it!” Toney said.

Daytime, overnights, and weekends in the pouring down rain, blizzards, or blazing heat; Toney has seen it all. If he had to pick summer or winter?

“Neither. Spring is my favorite time of year,” he said jokingly, on a sweltering hot day.

Bad news, we live in Kentucky where spring is a fleeting moment.

“I would say winter. You actually can dress to stay warm. But in the summertime, when it’s hot, it’s just hot. There’s nothing you can do to avoid it,” he said.

It helps that he truly enjoys the people he works with in the field.

“The camaraderie, mainly with my crew,” is what keeps Toney going and he focuses on the positive.

“Take it day by day. Let it be work and when the day’s over, it’s over. Go home and start over fresh the next day.”

And when he needs a break, it’s fitting that he finds himself connected to water.

“Fish. Most of the time, I do it by myself. It’s the solitude. The peace of mind, the quiet to get away. It’s my favorite thing to do.
