It’s a powerful statement when water providers from nearly every state come to the nation’s capitol in the same week with a common message. That’s what happened this week when more than 200 water professionals were in Washington, DC for the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Fly-in. What’s the common message? Invest in water infrastructure and support the utilities that make the water systems work.
Louisville Water’s team met with Kentucky’s legislative delegation to advocate for investing in infrastructure and sharing examples of what the money does.
Rep. Morgan McGarvey and his staff were quick to highlight the value of Louisville Water in their discussions. “Everyone loves the taste of Louisville’s water,” McGarvey said.
The Louisville Water team explained how the ongoing investment in research, the treatment plants, and the water main system helps provide the great-tasting and high-quality Louisville Pure Tap.
Our team visited the DC offices as the Ohio River flooding surrounded the Louisville Water Tower and pumping station.
Every Kentucky office talked about the impact of the crisis happening back home. Many legislative members had water systems in their districts that were damaged by the floods. While Louisville Water had no operational issues during the flood, our team highlighted the historic nature of the event with a video that showed how close the Ohio River came to the 1937 flood line.
In all, water professionals from across the United States held nearly 1,000 meetings on Capitol Hill. The AWWA Fly-in occurs every spring in Washington, D.C. Louisville Water participates every year to highlight the value of water.
