Louisville Water recently honored nearly 60 employees during the company’s 2025 Service Awards presentation. Communications & Community Relations Director Channa Newman, who served as emcee, said the ceremony at the Louisville Water Tower celebrated “the people who make Louisville Water one of the best water providers in the United States.”
She asked a few employees about their most memorable day on the job. Community Relations Supervisor Kayla Hanak, who noted that her role includes a lot of “other duties as assigned,” recounted the time last summer when our mascot contractor was out with an injury, which meant Hanak got to throw out the first pitch at a Bats game while wearing the Tapper suit.
Plant Maintenance Mechanic Steve Nalley reflected on the time he had to “boat into work” for a 24-hour shift at the Tower due to flooding. He joked about the firefighters escorting him through just a foot and a half of water.
Employees were honored for reaching 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, or 35 years of service, and a range of gifts were presented, including actual meter lids that Cross Connection Specialist Tim Meyer had crafted into clocks.
Metering Specialist Scott McHatton was the employee who received the award for 35 years, which prompted a standing ovation from his colleagues and underscored the camaraderie and pride that define the Louisville Water team.
