Swinging for a Chance at a Million Bucks!

A favorite Kentucky Derby Festival event is in full swing at Seneca Park.

Last week, golfers began teeing off for a shot at a million dollars in the 33^rd Annual Stock Yards Bank $1 Million Dollar Hole-in-One Golf Contest℠.

Louisville Water employees continued a tradition of spending a few hours to oversee the contest. On April 14, company volunteers teamed up with their partners at HDR, Inc. design firm to register golfers and keep an eagle eye on the winning hole.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to get that Derby fever started off each year with the kickoff of this event,” said Louisville Water accountant, Laura Warren.

Local 1683 President Adam Carter agreed. “It’s nice to get out here, enjoy the weather, watch some golf, and help out for the Derby Festival. It’s a big event for our city, our town.”

Whether you’re a beginner, average, or a PGA-hopeful, anyone can take a chance at the million dollar prize. Even if nobody claims the million, the first prize winner earns $5,000.

At least one golfer had a lucky putt on Friday.

“We have seen a hole in one. Someone made it,” Carter said.

That person automatically advanced to the semi-finals.

Carter and other judges were responsible for clearing the fairway between rounds as well as measuring the distance between golf balls and the hole to determine other potential semi-finalists.

“It gets me in the golf spirit because I haven’t played yet this year and it definitely gives me the itch to want to swing,” he said.

Each golf ball costs a dollar, but anyone who buys a Pegasus Pin at registration receives 10 golf balls.

Monday, April 17 is First Responders and Veterans Day. They get two swings for a dollar.

Maybe this will finally be the year that someone’s winning putt on the green lands them a million green ones!

Semi-finals are Sunday, April 23 with the final round taking place on the course on Tuesday, April 25.
