Louisville Water Reopens Frankfort Ave. ahead of Schedule

Louisville Water crew with replacement pipeLouisville Water wrapped up the bulk of its year-long project to replace critical water mains near the Crescent Hill Water Treatment Plant. Originally scheduled to reopen on August 22, Frankfort Avenue reopened to two-way traffic shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday night. There is currently one lane open in each direction.

The Crescent Hill facility is the largest water treatment plant in the state and an integral part of Louisville Water’s massive distribution network. Newly installed, 60-inch and 42-inch water mains will provide additional supply lines and more flexibility to move and reroute water to customers.

The $16 million project also includes some additional neighborhood improvements. Residents will soon enjoy brand new sidewalks along Frankfort Avenue between Stilz and Reservoir avenues. New trees will also be planted in the area. This part of the project is scheduled to finish by the end of October.

NOTE:

  • Reservoir Avenue remains closed, but is expected to reopen by the end of September
  • Residents using the Crescent Hill Reservoir, Mary T. Meagher Pool, and the Crescent Hill Golf Course, will have access from Brownsboro Road
