Louisville Pure Tap®: Bourbon’s Key Ingredient

Angels Envy TourEvery year, thousands of people make their way to Kentucky to taste some top-shelf bourbons. And that great bourbon couldn’t happen without top-shelf water. Today, nearly 20 distilleries use award-winning Louisville Pure Tap® in their recipe.

While September is celebrated as Bourbon Heritage Month both in the Bluegrass and nationally, you can safely say bourbon is always flowing in Kentucky.

Earlier this summer, Louisville Water hosted some of our friends from Angel’s Envy on a tour behind the scenes of our pumping stations and water treatment plant. Master Distiller Owen Martin was among those who learned about the process of how we turn Ohio River water into the pristine drinking water they use to create the prized “brown water”, what some Kentuckians have affectionately nicknamed bourbon.

Bourbon SIPosiumIn August, the Bourbon Women Association included a “Bourbon’s Best Friend” field trip to Louisville Water Tower during its annual SIPosium, a signature event that draws several hundred women who have a collective passion for bourbon. The ladies enjoyed a blind water tasting where they compared the different flavor profiles of H2O to see for themselves why Pure Tap stands out from the rest.

The following week, Vice President of Communications Kelley Dearing Smith shared Louisville Water’s history with bourbon with the Kentucky Distillers’ Association (KDA) and its integral role today with more than a dozen distilleries.

World Bourbon Toast

The appeal for bourbon crosses international time zones. On September 17, in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Kentucky Bourbon trail, people across the globe raised a glass for a world toast to Kentucky bourbon.

Bourbon is certainly music to Kentucky’s ears, to the tune of $9 billion— the average impact to the state’s economy every year. In Louisville, you might say it’s literally music to our ears. The Bourbon & Beyond Festival blends the passion for bourbon and live music. Happening from September 19-22, Louisville Water is a proud partner and will help keep the crowd hydrated with Pure Tap at hydration stations located throughout the venue. The summer heat is hanging around this week, so pack your empty reusable bottle to fill, drink, and repeat! New this year, runners are also getting in on the flavor of the festival. The Bourbon & Beyond 5K steps off Saturday morning as part of the Mayorthon race series. Pure Tap will fuel runners to the finish line.

However you choose to honor America’s native spirit, please do it responsibly and drink two glasses of Pure Tap for every one adult beverage.
