Jefferson County Public Schools senior Eniayo Destiny Iyun received a $10,000 scholarship from Louisville Water Company.
Iyun graduated with honors from Central High Magnet Career Academy where she took pre-med classes.
She worked through the pandemic to help vaccinate her community at a West Louisville health clinic, all while maintaining a 4.04 GPA.
In addition to submitting an application and academic transcripts, applicants had to write an essay on the importance of water.
Louisville Water celebrates Iyun’s accomplishments and appreciates that she values water.
As written in her scholarship essay, she understands that water is an essential part of life.
“Safe water is vital for sustaining development because it is the cord that binds the environment and society together,” Iyun wrote in her essay.
Iyun plans to attend Berea College in the fall and major in Biology.
