A Capitol Connection

This week Louisville Water joined more than 20 Louisville-area leaders for a capitol connection in Washington, D.C. The “Fly In,” sponsored by Greater Louisville Inc. (GLI), included utilities, businesses, schools, and universities as well as some of the region’s top employers. In a collective voice, the group highlighted the impact of investing in the region and supporting local businesses.  Louisville Water Vice President of Communications Kelley Dearing Smith used the opportunity to link water to economic development.

“Water is the anchor for a community’s quality of life and the link to making the economy work,” she said. “I used this trip to explain the importance of infrastructure funding and ensuring that local utilities are part of the conversation for job growth.”

More than 24,000 businesses rely on Louisville Water. That includes manufacturers, distilleries, small businesses, schools, restaurants and hospitals. One link every business shares is access to quality water. Louisville Water’s treatment facilities rank as 2 of the top 19 in North America for outstanding quality, and Louisville Water is one of the top drinking water utilities for reliable infrastructure.

“Water grows Kentucky,” said Dearing Smith. “And visits like these to our nation’s capitol elevate the value of drinking water and Louisville Water.”
