Donation supports flood relief

The Louisville Water Foundation made an emergency donation of $2,500 to the American Red Cross to help the organization respond to floods across Kentucky. The flooding a few weeks ago was the worst since 1957 and devastated several communities.

The donation provided food, toiletry items, and shelter to those affected. It also helped the 130 trained disaster workers responding to the crisis. On one night alone, the Red Cross provided safe refuge for nearly 340 people. The organization also partnered with Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, which set up a mobile kitchen in Jackson, Kentucky that provided more than 2,000 meals a day to Breathitt County and surrounding areas.

The donation from the Louisville Water Foundation aligns with its mission of improving the health and well-being of communities by providing water assistance and education. Established in 2013 to consolidate Louisville Water’s charitable and philanthropic efforts, the Foundation receives financial support from a broad base of public and private sources.
