Moving into the dorms, finding clubs and organizations that pique their interest, adding or dropping classes, and scoring a coveted parking spot or any parking spot for that matter. That about sums up the last week for thousands of University of Louisville students!
Louisville Water helped welcome students with ice-cold Louisville Pure Tap® during move-in day. Hydration 101 was in session on that blazing hot day.
“The best-tasting water right here!” exclaimed one student.
“As far as city water goes, this is the best!” added another.
You don’t have to be a scientist to know good drinking water when you taste it, but it doesn’t hurt.
“Neuroscience, might change it to health science,” said incoming freshman Nadir when asked about his major.
With that kind of focus on health, it was quick to see Nadir recognizes the importance of staying hydrated, sharing that he drinks “at least a gallon every day.”
And when it comes to Pure Tap, he’s done his homework. No, really.
“I searched it up!” he said with a grin. “It’s probably the best water in the nation, right?”
Home to two of the top 20 water treatment plants in the country, Louisville Water is at the head of the class.
After a few sips, sophomore Nyko said, “The water is amazing, better than DC water!”
He traded in his bottled water for a cup of Pure Tap from Community Relations Supervisor Kayla Hanak.
“We’re grateful to have had so many opportunities to come out and engage with students as they settle into the new semester,” she shared.
These days, a reusable water bottle is almost always in tow with students trekking across campus. And they have their pick of branded water fountains to fill up on the go.
“I think it’s really special and unique for a university and a water utility to have such a great partnership. Pure Tap is helping limit plastic waste on campus, so our partnership has helped highlight the university’s commitment to sustainability,” Hanak explained while attending the student organization fair.
With more than 400 student organizations at UofL, educating students about Pure Tap and introducing them to Louisville Water’s cooler rental program for their events is a win-win.
“This showcases that Louisville’s drinking water is good and it helps hydrate our students on hot summer days,” said Julie Onnembo, UofL’s assistant director of student involvement.

Onnembo said inviting Louisville Water to help begin the semester was a no brainer.
“It not only saves the cost of buying bottled water, but it avoids all the waste of plastic bottles ending up in the trash and landfills.”
Our focus on sustainability carries over to the home of the basketball Cards where students (and the community) can bring an empty reusable bottle into the KFC Yum! Center to cheer on the teams all season.
