Exactly one year ago today, Louisville Water employees Jimmy Stone and Chad Harper helped rescue a trapped kitten from a fire hydrant.
The initial call to repair the broken hydrant was routine until Harper saw the orange kitten stuck at the bottom, five feet underground.
With the help of Metro Animal Services, the kitten was carefully lifted out to safety.
Harper and Stone worked together for years to maintain Louisville Water fire hydrants.
Unfortunately, Stone passed away and Harper was critically injured Monday after a vehicle crashed into their job site.
“Jimmy always had a smile on his face and he had such an incredibly good heart,” said Kelley Dearing Smith, vice president of communications and marketing. “They both were very proud of the work they did in the community and it just points to the type of people they are. They care about the community.”
