A Personal Look at how Water Grows KY

Water Grows KYDaren Thompson, General Manager of Lebanon Water Works Company & Springfield Water & Sewer Commission, has seen firsthand how water serves as a catalyst for economic growth in the communities where his utility provides water services.

Thompson, a Marion County/Lebanon native, has watched his community grow immensely since he was a child. Business is booming with agriculture, distilling, and manufacturing all thriving in Marion County. And the basis for that growth: water.

“Ultimately, distilleries, like many other industrial businesses, rely on large quantities of water,” Thompson said. “Having good quality water makes really good bourbon.”

Water Grows KYWater is obviously essential for farmers to keep their crops and animals alive, but high-quality water can help produce better results for farmers looking to bring the best possible product to their customers.

“I had a farmer here recently just tell me that having good quality water helps keep his cattle healthier, which in turn makes a better product.”
