Louisville Water Fuels Runners to the Finish Line!

Thousands of mini/MARATHON racers will hydrate with Louisville Pure Tap®

Kentucky Derby festival Mini-marathonThousands of runners will race through the streets of Louisville for the Kentucky Derby Festival’s mini & MARATHON on Saturday, April 29! Louisville Water will fuel those runners along the course with ice cold Louisville Pure Tap at 10 hydration stations on the Kentucky side of the race.

Louisville Water employees will travel the mini-marathon route dark and early on Saturday morning to ensure all of our water stops, including Louisville Water’s office on Third Street, are ready to hydrate thirsty runners.

“We come to work at 4:30 a.m. to set up all the stops and have everything ready for the volunteers who hand out the water,” said Louisville Water Plumber Leader, Shawn Shaw.

Kentucky Derby festival volunteers handing out waterDozens of other Louisville Water employees volunteer to hand out Pure Tap outside Louisville Water’s Third Street headquarters. We’re prepared to serve roughly 10,000 gallons of water during the race!

Did you know that our crews also inspect the route well before race day to determine whether any Louisville Water maintenance or repair work is happening along the course? They ensure the work is completed prior to the event, roads are open, and all meter lids in the pathways are secured.

The week leading up to the event, water samples are collected at all water stops to provide outstanding Pure Tap. All of these preparations help keep the marathon participants safe, hydrated, and focused on completing the race which ends at Lynn Family Stadium.

Shaw said, “It’s fun to watch the runners and look for employees or people we know who may be participating in either the mini or full marathon.”

This year’s event should be exciting as we celebrate the 50th Kentucky Derby Festival mini!
