Recruiting the next generation of water professionals

Four Louisville Water employees recently talked to hundreds of high school students about career opportunities at the company.

Plumber Leader Darren Washburn, Plumber Leader’s Assistant Scott Corbin, and Emergency Turners Latona Estes and Keith Meriwether participated in Kentucky Construction Career Days. The event brought representatives from dozens of companies together with students from schools throughout the state.

Held at the Shelby County Fairgrounds on September 21 and 22, Kentucky Construction Career Days were sponsored by K4C, a trade education affiliate to the construction industry.

Washburn estimated about 500 students attended the event. He said many of them asked questions about Louisville Water and seemed genuinely interested in our career opportunities, including installing and maintaining both pipes and fire hydrants.
