Louisville Water Company announced a donation of $250,000 to the Louisville Water Foundation to help fulfill the Foundation’s mission of working toward a world where safe water is available to everyone. Each year Louisville Water donates to the Foundation to use for customer assistance and other projects that improve the health and well-being of the communities it serves and around the world by providing water assistance and water education.

Funding for the Foundation comes from corporate donations of Louisville Water and Louisville MSD, businesses, and organizations as well as employees of Louisville Water and MSD.

Much of the Foundation’s funds support Louisville Water’s customer assistance program, Drops of Kindness℠. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, the number of customers requiring support has grown significantly. Typically, around 2,000 households receive assistance with their water and wastewater bill, but that need has skyrocketed to as many as 18,000 households a month.

Customers needing this assistance with bills can go to Drops of Kindness to sign up for flexible payment plans, apply for a billing credit, and connect directly with agencies that receive the Foundation funding, depending on the county in which they reside.

So far in 2021, the Foundation has supported many projects in addition to customer assistance. Examples of this funding include $5,000 to the American Red Cross for assistance after Hurricane Ida and Kentucky flooding, $2,500 to WaterStep’s earthquake recovery efforts in Haiti, $15,000 to Teach Kentucky, $15,000 to Young Author’s Greenhouse, and $10,000 to the Kentucky Waterways Alliance.
