Worked at Louisville Water since 2008
Customer service is a thread that runs throughout Megan Talley’s career. When she joined Louisville Water, she was looking for a role that would let her keep serving customers without the sales focus she had experienced while working in the banking industry. A family member pointed her toward an opening at Louisville Water, and the customer service aspect immediately appealed to her.
Talley started as a call center coordinator in 2008 and has been with the company ever since. In 2011, she became a business operations manager. Then in 2016, she took on the role of metering field operations manager, leading employees who are responsible for meter reading, meter maintenance, and field customer service.
“A big part of my focus is making sure my team has what they need to be successful — whether that’s training, communication, or creating a safe work environment — while also ensuring our operations run efficiently and serve our customers well,” she said.
One of her biggest challenges is continuing to grow in her role while juggling the many demands and shifting priorities that come with day-to-day operations, but she said she enjoys the opportunities the position gives her to develop meaningful relationships with “team members and other employees across the company.”
Talley points to the COVID-19 pandemic as one of the most memorable periods of time at Louisville Water. While she doesn’t single out a particular day, she remembers that period as a test of commitment and adaptability.
“We were coming in every day, figuring out in real time how to adapt, keep operations running, and make sure our employees stayed safe,” she shared. “It was definitely a challenging time but also one that really showed the resilience and dedication of our team.”
Talley’s dedication to the water industry extends beyond Louisville Water. She has been involved with Kentucky|Tennessee American Water Works Association (AWWA) since 2012.
“I still remember attending my first Water Professionals Conference in Memphis and being really impressed by the professionalism and pride across the water industry,” she said.
Since then, Talley has made numerous connections with other AWWA members and worked to support water utilities throughout the region. She has been a voting member of the Board for more than six years. Last year, she moved into the role of AWWA Chair for the KY|TN section for 2025-2026. She oversaw the fall leadership retreat, worked to develop a strategic plan, and is now overseeing planning and execution for the 2026 Water Professionals Conference.

“What I really value about AWWA is the sense of connection and shared purpose,” Talley said. “It’s a group of people who genuinely care about the work we do.”
Her career also includes several professional milestones. In 2018, she received the KY|TN AWWA Customer Service Award of Excellence. That same year, she earned her MBA and was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society, which recognizes the top 20% of a class.
When she’s not working, she enjoys traveling with her family, boating, reading, and listening to audiobooks and podcasts — “anything to unwind while learning something new,” Talley said.
