Trees Planted to Honor Employees

Memorial trees planted at Champions park

Losing a loved one is not something you can fully prepare for whether it’s expected or sudden. But as the quote from Jack Thorne reminds us, “Those we love never truly leave us…” and that sentiment can provide a sense of comfort.

Last spring, Louisville Water’s Service Board worked with Louisville Parks and Recreation’s Urban Forestry Department to plant trees in honor of 10 employees who passed away in the last 10 years.

The gesture is a lasting tribute to their impact at Louisville Water and on our employees who had the pleasure of knowing and working with them.

We chose Champions Park because it felt like a fitting location given that it sits along River Road near Louisville Water Tower. A variety of trees were chosen: Chinkapin Oak, Persimmon, and Magnolia Jade.

Carla Stone was touched when she learned about the tree dedication, sharing that her husband used to play soccer at Champions Park.

She said, “Jimmy loved Magnolias. (It’s) so special that one has been planted in his honor at Champions Park by the Louisville Water Company.”

Our sincere hope is that these trees might serve as a beautiful place where family and friends can find some solace in remembering their loved ones for many years to come.

We would like to thank Louisville Parks and Recreation for helping fulfill this mission.
