For Josh Miller, a safe working environment is top priority.
As an environmental health and safety specialist, he makes sure all Louisville Water facilities and operations are compliant and up to code.
“My role focuses on ensuring a safe work environment for employees and contractors, supporting regulatory compliance, and helping teams identify and correct hazards before incidents occur,” Miller said. “I spend a lot of time in the field working alongside maintenance, operations, and construction teams, conducting audits, and driving continuous improvement in our safety programs.”
Miller’s been in this position for nearly two years and rotates between the Crescent Hill Treatment Plant and the Zorn Avenue Pumping Station.
When asked what he likes most about his job, Miller credited his coworkers.
“I enjoy positively impacting people’s safety every day. Building relationships with employees and contractors, helping them recognize risks and showing them how to make safer decisions is very rewarding. No two days are the same, and there’s always an opportunity to learn and improve,” he said.
For someone wanting to work in his field, Miller gave the following advice:
“Be proactive and willing to engage with people at all levels of an organization. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are just as important as technical knowledge. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, spend time in the field, and stay committed to continuous learning — safety is always evolving.”
When he’s not at work, Miller enjoys spending time with friends and family, being outdoors, golfing, and following the Cincinnati Bengals.
