How to Apply for a Grant
Louisville Water Foundation accepts grant applications twice a year from non-profit organizations with projects that address a water-related need.
Application deadline for educational projects is March 15:
- Educational programs pertaining to any part or facet of the Louisville Water and MSD water cycles, including flood protection, are eligible.
Application deadline for water access projects is September 15:
- Water assistance programs serving individuals and/or communities
- Projects aimed to provide access to water for drinking and sanitation purposes
- Primarily those that pertain to purposes of drinking water, stormwater/wastewater, and flood protection. Agriculture, irrigation, or individual water line services are typically not considered for grant funding.
Activities that do not qualify:
- Organizations that discriminate for any reason, use funding for religious purposes, or require participation in religious activities to receive services
- Lobbying (attempting to influence local, state, or national legislation)
- Political groups or individuals
- Private foundations
Selection Criteria:
- Clarity of project goals, objectives, and potential impact on the community
- Strength of project design and team
- Innovative approach with real-world application
- Sustainability of project post-grant
- Evidence of community engagement
- Plan for assessing impact of project and the capacity to measure its outcome
- Reasonable and efficient budget

The Foundation Board meets twice a year to approve any recommended awards.
The Foundation awarded $20,000 to the Passionist Earth & Spirit Center in 2022 to help develop a SpiritScape Nature Discovery Area.
This water feature is “a fun and educational addition to our nature-based summer camps and our extensive retreat programs.”
