Worked at Louisville Water since 2023
As the daughter of a Louisville Water retiree, Engineer Maciah Middleton almost followed in her mother’s footsteps.
“My mother worked here in project accounting for over 30 years. While I was in college, she’d always brag about how wonderful the Water Company was and how she envisioned me working here as a project engineer,” Middleton said.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University, she immediately set out to work at Louisville Water. Not in accounting like her mother, but the engineering department, of course.
“I applied right after college, but didn’t get the job due to not having enough experience. I applied again several years later and here I am, a project engineer at Louisville Water Company,” she said.
On a typical day, Middleton designs and manages water main extension projects for newer developments.
“What I enjoy the most about my job is the design and planning aspect. I enjoy researching and visiting new project sites, seeing what’s out there, and creating a plan to get water to each customer. It’s incredibly satisfying to see a project come to life and to know that someone will now have access to clean running water for their home,” she said.
For someone interested in an engineering career, Middleton gave the following advice:
“Don’t be afraid to speak up and ask questions. It’s essential to understand your job thoroughly and how it impacts the lives of others. Also, don’t give up. The coursework may be heavy, but the reward is even greater.”
When she’s not designing plans for water main extensions, Middleton enjoys serving in a leadership role with a higher calling.
“Outside of work, I am currently the youth minister at my church. I absolutely love teaching and mentoring children, helping them to navigate life’s challenges, while building them up to become respectable adults. In my spare time, I enjoy reading fun fiction novels about womanhood and listening to true crime podcasts,” she said. “I am also currently taking classes to earn a master’s degree at the University of Louisville.”
Middleton is proud to carry on the legacy her mother started with Louisville Water decades ago.
“I am grateful and thankful for the Louisville Water Company. As an employee, semi-following in my mother’s footsteps, and for how they’ve supported my family over the years. I can attest that Louisville Water is truly the best place to work.”
