Kicking Off World Water Day: Collecting Shoes for Clean Water Access

WaterStep shoe collectionWater is a vital resource for essential health and quality of life and is a key component in fueling economic growth. Every year, World Water Day on March 22 highlights the importance of safe, clean water in communities.

Louisville Water is kicking off World Water Day with a shoe drive competition with our friends at Louisville MSD.

All of the donations benefit WaterStep, which works to provide clean water access around the globe.

Louisville Water collects footwear year-round for the organization. We donated 1,125 pounds of shoes to WaterStep in 2024! That added up to more funding for projects for safe water and means fewer shoes ended up in landfills.

Here’s how you can participate:

Louisville Water has a public donation box at its corporate office in downtown Louisville. Simply drop off your gently used (not muddy or moldy) shoes inside the box located in our lobby at 550 South Third Street. The competition runs through Earth Day, April 22. We appreciate your contributions and support to help make a global impact!
