Making sure the H2O can flow

Louisville Water Company has crews that focus on maintaining our 24,000 fire hydrants. About 1,850 of them need to be “winterized” throughout the season.

The process includes pumping out any standing water and adding a gallon of food-grade antifreeze.

The photos below of Darren Washburn and Kendrick Ford winterizing hydrants in Bullitt County were taken on January 4, a day when the high temperature was 24 degrees.

Several local news stations have recently featured Louisville Water’s efforts to maintain hydrants.
