Scenes from the pure tap 5k

More than 1,000 runners, joggers, and walkers participated in the Louisville pure tap® 5k on September 7. Held at Louisville Water Tower, the race gave the participants a great view of the historic tower as they left the starting gate at the south end of the park’s driveway and circled around to Zorn Avenue.

The 2019 pure tap 5k was dedicated to Louisville Water employees Jimmy Stone and Chad Harper, members of the company’s hydrant team. Stone was killed and Harper was injured on July 22 when a car crashed into their worksite.

In Stone’s memory and in honor of Harper, the pure tap 5k pace vehicle was one of the hydrant trucks used by the team. Stone’s wife, Carla, was a guest of honor. She started the race with an air horn and held one end of the ribbon for the winners.

The overall men’s and women’s winners were Logan Barrett and Flannery Musk. Barret finished the race with a time of 15:09.09. Musk’s time was 17:48.69. For complete race results, visit puretap5k.com.

The annual pure tap 5k is the first leg of the Louisville Sports Commission Fall Runathon.
