Many Jefferson County Public School District teachers are starting the new school year with a new awareness of the resources available to help them teach water science and other water-related lessons.
That’s because a recent orientation session for several hundred JCPS teachers included information from Louisville Water Education and Outreach staff members about the free, hands-on programs and resources the company offers educators. These lessons in science, social studies, and practical living align with school standards and are a real-world extension of classroom learning.
One first-year teacher at the orientation session already had a special water company connection. Rebecca Smith’s grandparents, Karen and Charlie Gater, are both Louisville Water retirees. Smith, who is shown in the top photo above, is a teacher at Kennedy Montessori School.
