$29 Million Project Expands Water Access in Nelson County

Additional 15M gallons of water daily will continue region’s rapid economic growth

WGKY signThis afternoon, Bardstown Mayor Dick Heaton, Nelson County Judge Executive Timothy Hutchins and Louisville Water President & CEO Spencer Bruce announced a regional partnership to expand water access for businesses and residents located in Nelson County.

Louisville Water, North Nelson Water District, and the City of Bardstown are working to build a 42-inch water main along the I-65 corridor and another 24-inch main along Highway 245 to connect the North Nelson Water District to Louisville Water’s supply. The mighty Ohio River ensures that Louisville Water can provide water to communities throughout Kentucky.

“We are very proud of this $29 million investment because of the long-term impact it will have on the Bardstown community,” Bruce said. “For Louisville Water, partnering with North Nelson Water District and the City of Bardstown was an easy decision. We believe in regional partnerships just like this one and can’t wait to see the growth this investment will help yield here in Nelson County.”

“This project is a game-changer for Nelson County,” Hutchins said. “We believe that infrastructure is critical to continued economic growth. This project will be impactful for generations to come.”

Construction has already begun on the project, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

“Bardstown is the home of many distilleries, manufacturers, farms and more,” Heaton said. “Because of this partnership, members of our business community will have the water they need for the foreseeable future. Water grows Bardstown!”
