Worked at Louisville Water since 2015
Mon’Shea Harris didn’t necessarily imagine a career at Louisville Water, but 10 years later he can share, “I’m proud to say I work for Louisville Water Company.”
Harris is a Louisville native. He graduated from Doss High School which allowed him to attend Detrick Vocational School and learn carpentry skills. However, once he earned his Commercial Driver’s License, he went down a different road. He worked at Metro Public Works for more than 10 years before landing a job at Louisville Water. Harris said he felt there were more opportunities to grow with Louisville Water, and just a little over a year into the job, he was promoted to the position of plumber leader. As one of the company’s plumber leaders, he is responsible for managing his crew day to day. They may be repairing a water main break one day, replacing part of a customer’s service line on another, or restoring water service for customers. Unlike some other jobs, Harris can see the impact of his job every day in helping supply a vital resource to the community.
“My favorite part is going out, doing a job, especially when the water is off and then everybody’s coming outside excited that we’ve got their water back on. I think that’s the best satisfaction I get from doing my job.”
Harris’ job takes him all over the city and into many of the neighborhoods he’s called home at one point in time- PRP, west Louisville, Lyndon, Old Louisville, and south Louisville. He takes great pride in his hometown and great pride in working for Louisville Water which has a reputation for producing and delivering high-quality drinking water.
“We’ve got the best water,” he said. “The water is very good to drink. You go to different places, different cities, and the water doesn’t taste anything like ours. It’s definitely a big difference.”
In addition to his day-to-day tasks, Harris is a new member of Louisville Water’s CORE (Culture of Ownership, Respect, and Engagement) Council, an employee-led council dedicated to fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging across the company. He also serves on the executive board for Local 1683, Louisville Water’s union.
Harris is the proud father to his daughter, Faith, and son, Bryan.
