Some Louisville Water employees recently served a helping of gratitude and kindness along with a hot meal to unhoused veterans at Wayside Christian Mission. Members of the company’s CORE (Culture, Ownership, Respect, and Engagement) Council also delivered gift bags which included a blanket, snacks, and stress ball.
For Metering Services Support Specialist Dwan Pinnix, the feeling to do something nice for those who served our country was close to her heart.
“My father was in the Army, so I understand the ‘Army life’. My family moved around a lot and even lived out of the country, so it feels good to help those that I know appreciate it,” Pinnix shared. “Everyone has a life story, and some are different than others.”
Pinnix said she bonded with a female veteran in particular while sharing a meal at the table.
“She shared with us her struggle and how she developed a heart condition while in the service and due to medical paperwork being lost, she was unable to receive the disability she needed. Pinnix said, “She was grateful that Wayside can provide her with an opportunity to receive housing and job assistance.”
Louisville Water Design Drafter Herbert Johnson said it was humbling to hear some of the challenges people at Wayside face.
“I enjoy giving back to the community because I remember how it felt growing up and to receive help from the community,” Johnson said.
He and the other CORE Council members left Wayside with full hearts and gratitude.
“Giving back makes me appreciate the little things in life that some people take for granted,” Pinnix said.
A lesson we could all embrace as we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving. Louisville Water wishes all of you a healthy and happy holiday!
