Tapper’s Big Adventure Comes to Life with Special Guests:

Meet a Firefighter, Farmer, and Chef and Tour the Louisville Water Tower!

Tapper at Water TowerIt’s an iconic landmark for locals, but it’s also a National Historic Landmark as the oldest standing ornamental water tower in the United States. At 185 feet tall, Louisville Water Tower is even more impressive to behold when you’re up close.

We’re fortunate to share the rich history of Louisville’s drinking water with our community on the very site where it all began in 1860.

This Sunday, Louisville Water Tower will host its community open day. Visitors can take a guided tour, step inside the Tower, admire a giant steam engine, and wander through the WaterWorks Museum.

Everyone’s favorite mascot will be there, and a few special guests will read Tapper’s children’s book including Local 1683 Vice President Adam Purvis, a Louisville Water metering specialist.

Working nearly 23 years with the company, Louisville Water is the only place that Purvis’ young children have known as dad’s work. But this particular assignment might be the one that gets him extra cool points in their book.

“When I got home, I told them. I said, ‘what do you think about dad going to the water tower and reading Tapper’s book in front of you and a bunch of other kids’? And they were like ‘yay, that sounds great’!” Purvis shared. “I was a little bit nervous, didn’t know, but when they got behind it, I was like for sure I’m going to do it now.”

Kids can also enjoy hands-on activities like building their own water tower, explore a Louisville Water truck and firetruck, and meet a firefighter, farmer, and chef.
