We Need a Break From Breaks!

Louisville Water expects the winter months to bring more work for our crews, but this January has been usually busy. On average, we get two or three main breaks reported a day. For January 2018, we had 238 main breaks reported, with 25 being the highest number of main breaks recorded in a single day.

It’s not uncommon to see a rash of water main breaks in bitterly cold weather. As the water temperature dips below 39 degrees, the water inside the underground pipe expands and causes an increase in pressure within the pipe. When the pressure gets too high, the pipe can rupture.

Thank you to our crews and engineers for working hard to repair these water mains quickly for our customers.
