Minors Lane students gain water wisdom

Louisville Water jumped in to help fifth graders from Minors Lane Elementary learn about water as part of a community action project.

Recently Louisville Water Community Relations Specialist Barbara Crow visited the students in person, as they created an outdoor classroom and taught a lesson about the Ohio River as a resource. After this lesson, they are putting together a plan highlighting what they can do to protect the river.

Crow’s first meeting with the students was last month with a virtual presentation from Louisville Water Tower Park that included a question-and-answer session and a remote tour.

“It’s the first time many of these fifth graders had seen or knew about the Ohio River,” said Crow.

Teacher Julianne Hummel hopes to arrange a field trip for the kids to Louisville Water Tower Park so they can see the Water Tower, WaterWorks Museum, and Pumping Station No. 3 in person.
