Backpack Boost with Day of Action

Service board backpack stuffing 2025We’ll soon share the road with school buses and more drivers as tens of thousands of kids head back to the classroom next week and in August. While you may need to pack your patience and school lunches, it was only a few weeks ago that some Louisville Water employees helped pack 2,000 backpacks for students.

The Louisville Water Service Board along with employees from customer service and IT participated in Metro United Way’s Day of Action last month.

From filling backpacks to restocking the supply lines and sealing boxes, every assignment helped set students up for success this school year.

Louisville Water Application Developer Charlie Myre enjoyed his first time volunteering with the Service Board.

“I was just so happy to be given an opportunity to help the community, and I am so excited to continue doing so in the future,” Myre said.

It’s that kind of enthusiasm that helps the Service Board and the United Way benefit our communities. In all, United Way provided 2,600 backpacks for 58 nonprofit organizations who requested assistance.
