Beverly S employee profile“I really never know what is going to come up on any given day,” said Senior Paralegal Beverly Soice. “It never gets dull.”

“I compile all meeting books and prepare for all Board of Water Works meetings,” she explained. “I also prepare and file claims in bankruptcy matters, draft pleadings in foreclosure lawsuits, respond to open records request, track and post all Louisville Water policies and procedures, and provide administrative support to the Louisville Water Foundation.”

Soice received an Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Studies in 1986 and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science in 2003, both from the University of Louisville.  She worked as a paralegal for many years in many different places before joining Louisville Water.

“In Louisville, I was a paralegal in the Legal Department at the Bank of Louisville,” she said. “In Savannah, Georgia, I worked at a law firm; in Sioux City, Iowa, I worked at an accounting and consulting firm; in Marshalltown, Iowa, I worked at a law firm; in Victoria, Texas, I was a Deputy Clerk at the District Court Clerk’s office — and finally back to Louisville where I worked for a sole practitioner who specialized in medical malpractice law.”

“My ex-husband was in recruiting for the U.S. Army,” she added, “and needless to say, we moved a lot.”

In 2004, Soice “really was not seriously looking to leave” her job with the sole practitioner, but she saw a posting for a Louisville Water paralegal and applied because she “wanted a more stable position with a larger organization and more benefits.”

Beverly S working at her deskSince joining the company, she has always worked as a paralegal in the Office of the General Counsel, but she said one of her most memorable days at Louisville Water wasn’t related to any of her numerous legal tasks and other job duties.

It was “when so many of my coworkers came to the funeral home when my father passed away,” she shared. “It was several years ago, but I still remember how supported I felt by my coworkers. This is not just a place to work. It is a family — maybe dysfunctional at times, but a family of sorts.”

When she’s not working, Soice enjoys such hobbies as gardening and “light home remodeling.”
