Worked at Louisville Water since 2017
For many new employees at Louisville Water, Senior Human Resources Generalist Kellie Bowman is the first person they meet on the job.
“I provide comprehensive HR support across the company. My responsibilities include benefits administration, overseeing recruitment and onboarding processes, ensuring policy compliance, tracking key HR metrics, and maintaining data within our Human Resources Information System,” Bowman said.
She’s worked in Louisville Water’s HR department for more than eight years and said she enjoys supporting the company’s workforce.
“I appreciate the variety of tasks and the opportunity to make a significant impact in multiple areas of the organization,” Bowman said. “The fact that no two days are the same keeps the job both interesting and continuously challenging. Whether I’m addressing a workplace concern, guiding an employee through a complex situation, or contributing to a cultural initiative, I enjoy knowing my work directly supports both the people and the business.”
Bowman said working in HR is more than just job recruitment.
“Many people assume HR is solely about hiring or dealing with employee issues, but it encompasses much more. It involves compliance, benefits, compensation, training, policy development, and helping shape workplace culture,” she said.
For someone considering a career in HR, Bowman offered the following advice:
“Start in entry-level roles such as recruiting, onboarding support, payroll, or benefits administration to gain a comprehensive understanding of what HR truly entails. These positions will provide you with practical insights into how HR operates. HR roles often involve working behind the scenes and supporting others. If you are driven by service and professionalism, you will thrive, even if your impact is sometimes indirect.”
When she’s not onboarding new employees, she enjoys working around the house.
“I usually spend (spare) time making the house I bought a few years ago feel more like home, tackling various projects as I go. It’s a continuous learning process and a work in progress,” she said.
