Worked at Louisville Water since 2024
Supporting payroll and other enterprise business systems (EBS), Mauricio Flores has quickly become a crucial part of technology management and implementation at Louisville Water, bringing with him a story that spans industries, continents, and cultures.
“I was born and raised in Mexico City,” he said. “In 2005, I came to the U.S. to get my master’s degree at Western Kentucky University. After graduation, I got a job here in Louisville and stayed here since, for the most part. I’ve worked in several companies as a business analyst. After my last job, the company that originally hired me here in Louisville recommended me for this job at Louisville Water.”
In a little more than a year as a senior business systems analyst, he has made significant contributions to the company, especially in working to implement our new human resources system called Oracle HCM (Human Capital Management). A technological leap for Louisville Water, this system will streamline employees’ ability to update personal information, manage work hours, submit vacation and sick leave, review performance, and apply for jobs.
Every large-scale IT project brings a unique set of challenges, but Mauricio is no stranger to meeting them head on and readily adapts to Oracle HCM’s tight timelines, unexpected difficulties, and the need to “learn new things on the go.”
“I can apply my experience and skills to learn new business functional areas as well as new technologies,” he said.
When asked about his most memorable experience at Louisville Water so far, he highlighted a unique aspect of the company’s onboarding process.
“Interestingly enough, my most memorable day was when they took us to the different facilities as part of new hire onboarding,” he said.
“Due to the nature of my job, I’m fortunate enough to be able to work in all kinds of industries, functional areas, and company sizes; and I like learning about the company I work for so I can understand it better and apply what I know and what I can do for the betterment of both the company and my career.”
Outside business hours, Mauricio explores a range of interests that reflect his diverse background and love of learning.
“I love music, art, watching sports, and foreign languages, among other things,” he said.
One of his favorite local activities is attending “After Hours at the Speed (Museum)” events, where there’s “always something new to see, hear, and learn.”
Occasionally, he likes to sing karaoke, and he’s a member of Alliance Française of Louisville, where he can practice French and immerse himself in another culture.
“I love my family and friends, both here and back home,” he added. “I’m always trying to visit my family as often as I can.”
