Meet Brandon Hill, Oracle systems administrator at Louisville Water.
Since February 2021, Hill has managed systems and various software applications in the company’s Industrial Technology department.
“I support every department through the administration of the applications that they utilize to perform their jobs,” he said. “I like that it gives me an all-encompassing view of what each department in the company is doing from a macro perspective.”
Because the IT department supports critical business needs, Hill often needs to be on call outside of normal work hours.
“IT can offer more flexibility than some other fields… but it also requires you to be (available) at nights and weekends for maintenance and emergency issues,” he said.
In his spare time Hill enjoys working out, watching sports, and mentoring youth in the community.
“I was a student athlete in college, and I’ve coached high school basketball for four years,” he said. “I run a non-profit organization and was recently named a Kentucky Colonel by Gov. Andy Beshear.”
Hill is also one of Greater Louisville’s 2022 Forty Under 40, an honor that recognizes dynamic leaders from the city’s top companies and organizations. He received the honor on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at a ceremony sponsored by Louisville Business First.
“Although I’m in my 30s, I feel like I’ve lived a few lives already. I’m a U.S. Air Force veteran and I’ve worked in IT for 15 years,” he said.
What’s Hill’s advice for someone considering a career in IT?
“Ensure that the IT field is something that you really enjoy and want to do.”
