If you think it’s cold now, brace yourself. We’re headed for a big dip in the temperatures this week. Louisville is included in an ‘extreme cold warning’ through 11 a.m. Tuesday. Temperatures will hover near zero degrees at times with wind chills making it feel well below that.
While you’re taking steps to stay warm, it appears many of you are also taking precautions to protect your pipes! Louisville Water usually receives an uptick in ‘no water’ calls when arctic air arrives, but it’s been minimal compared to last year’s lingering winter weather.

The majority of the calls we answer end up being frozen pipes on the customer’s side. If you experience problems with only one or two faucets, that’s likely the case. While we don’t offer plumbing advice, we have suggestions on how to protect your pipes at LouisvilleWater.com/ColdWeatherTips, so you can keep the Louisville Pure Tap® flowing.
We also encourage customers to know where your main water shutoff valve is located. This can save time, headaches, and avoid a bigger mess should a pipe burst in your home.
