We like to say Louisville Pure Tap® is bourbon’s best friend, but good water also makes good beer!
“Quality is important because water makes up the majority of beer itself. Gotta make sure our water quality is set in stone and always consistent,” explained Kelly Hieronymus, West Sixth Brewing’s marketing director.
Louisville has quickly become a city known for its craft breweries. Summertime brings several beer festivals on tap and Louisville Pure Tap® is also flowing for the crowds.
“Louisville Water being at beer festivals is so important because having beer is great, drinking beer is great, and supporting local is great, but it’s also really important to be responsible. I think Louisville Water helps with that by being at these events,” said Kaitlyn Colberg, the marketing and events director for Trellis Brewing.
While Trellis is new in town, Smoketown to be exact, Colberg is not a rookie in the industry.
“I’ve been working with beer for over a decade.” So Colberg knows about a recipe for success. “We’re starting with an A+ product (Louisville Water) to help our product be A+. In the long run, starting with good ingredients, local ingredients are really important. Beer is four ingredients total and water is one of those, so that’s a big deal.”
The profile of Louisville’s tap water is a solid starting point for brewers, featuring moderate hardness and alkalinity, with low levels of chloride, sulfate, and sodium. This means Pure Tap does not need any additional ‘treatment’ by the brewers before it mixes into the beer, saving time, money, and resources.
You might say Louisville Water and local beer mash together perfectly.
“We love being able to hydrate with Louisville Water, brew our beer with Louisville Water, and continue to be a big supporter of Louisville. Craft beer is awesome. Kentucky is awesome. Drink more beer. Drink more water,” Hieronymus stated.
The community has come to count on Louisville Water serving up cold pours every year at the Kentucky Craft Bash, J’town Summer Beer Fest, and Summer Beer Fest at Frazier. Many even bring their own Pure Tap bottles to fill, drink, and repeat.
“It’s extremely hot, so not only is it safe but it’s definitely good to stay hydrated when you drink no matter the weather,” Rebekah Ellis said. She knows great water when she tastes it. “Anything out of state is not nearly as good.”
We might be biased, but we’ll raise a pint to that!
“Both need each other at the end of the day,” Hieronymus said.
So if you’re heading to the Old Lou Brew Craft Beer Festival or Brew at the Zoo this month, we offer this Pure Tap pro-tip: while you drink like a local, drink responsibly. Have two glasses of Pure Tap for every alcoholic beverage you consume.
