Public health is at the core of what Louisville Water does every day. We produce an average of 131 million gallons of high-quality drinking water to nearly a million people daily. Not only is Louisville Pure Tap® good for your body with numerous health benefits, it’s also good for our planet!
By choosing to fill up with Pure Tap fresh from the faucet, you are doing your part to protect our environment. Here are other ways you’re pitching in to help:
- Quenching your thirst at Louisville Water’s 100+ bottle filling stations around the area with a reusable bottle has saved 7.5 million single-use plastic bottles from going to the landfill.
- Participating in our cooler rental program (accompanied with compostable cups) – we’ve already provided nearly 350 coolers in 2025 for 81 events, serving over 50,000 people.
ICYMI: Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg and the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability launched their annual “Plastic Free July”. The month-long initiative is part of a global movement that advocates for millions of people to cut down on single-use plastic waste.
“Encouraging our community to use refillable bottles is a message that we share throughout the year,” said Louisville Water Education & Outreach Specialist Heather Hill. “It is one of the easiest ways that you can help the environment. So, grab your favorite reusable bottle, ditch the single-use plastic, and fill up fresh from the faucet!”
Earlier this year, Louisville Water announced an expanded partnership with the KFC Yum! Center which includes six new hydration stations. University of Louisville fans and other guests can bring a clear, empty bottle inside the venue to stay hydrated.
“We are thrilled to continue our strong partnership with Louisville Water Company,” said Eric Granger, General Manager of the KFC Yum! Center. “These new refill stations represent a crucial step forward in our efforts to provide more sustainable options for our fans, while also improving their overall event experience. This is just one example of how we can work together to create a more environmentally friendly venue for our community.”
In the spring, Louisville Water and Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport partnered to provide additional bottle filling stations in the terminals. You’ll also spot Pure Tap-branded drinking fountains at popular attractions like Slugger Field, Lynn Family Stadium, Kentucky Kingdom, Waterfront Botanical Gardens, and Bernheim Forest.
In conjunction with Plastic Free July, Louisville Water is joining the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability and Beyond Plastics Louisville at Trellis Brewing (a Made With Pure Tap partner) for a documentary screening We’re All Plastic People Now on July 24. In addition to iced coolers of Pure Tap, Trellis Brewing has pledged one dollar for every beverage purchased that evening to benefit the Kentucky Waterways Alliance.
