Public health is at the core of what Louisville Water does every day, producing and delivering high-quality drinking water. Water is essential to good health and Louisville Water educators have hit all corners of Jefferson County this month to spread that message.
“October has become an extremely busy month for the Education & Outreach team,” said Community Relations Specialist Barbara Crow. “Just in time for cold and flu season area, businesses want to arm their employees with any information that will keep them safe, happy, and healthy on the job.”
Crow is a pro at telling the community everything they could ever want or need to know about Louisville Pure Tap®. From the health benefits of drinking it, to detecting leaks in home plumbing, and handing out bright yellow tags to mark their main water shutoff valve, she has all the bases covered.
That was certainly the case at the Metro Louisville Health Fair where more than 450 people attended.
It was also a big crowd at Shively’s fire safety event. With chili on the menu, ice-cold cups of Pure Tap were a perfect choice. Pure Tap bottles are always popular so customers can fill up on the go!
Staying hydrated on the University of Louisville campus is never a problem.
Students are never far from refillable Pure Tap bottle stations and they even have an exclusive red-lidded bottle to carry with them. Louisville Water showed up with extras at UofL’s student health and sustainability fairs, held on the same day. We call that a winning combo! Fun fact: By using refillable bottles at our hydration stations across the city, YOU have helped us save 6.2 million plastic bottles from going to the landfill!
The “Rethink your Drink” display is always eye-opening when people realize how much sugar other beverage choices contain. You can’t go wrong with Pure Tap – zero sugar, zero calories. Fresh from the faucet was the message at Goodwill’s Spanish Heritage & Health Fair on Preston Highway and the Goodwill Industries Health Fair in west Louisville.
Teaching even the youngest customers is important. We look forward to the Smoketown Community Fest every year ahead of Halloween. Tapper lets the kids know there are no tricks, only treats when it comes to drinking Pure Tap. And of course, you can’t wash your hands without water! Educator Heather Hill shared part of our Clean Hands Up! lesson at the Georgia Chaffee TAPP School in Fairdale.
“Handwashing is a life lesson. It’s important for Louisville Water to show people of all ages how to wash their hands with the proper technique. One of the most popular items we give away at health fairs are portable soap sheets. If you’re ever in a public bathroom that is out of soap, just grab one and add water. People love them!” Hill said.
It only makes sense that Louisville Water was invited to Norton Healthcare’s block party on October 26 to welcome the first new hospital west of Ninth Street in more than 150 years! Water helps fuel the operations at local hospitals, is vital to sanitation practices, and provides health benefits. The hospital officially opens on November 11.
As we wrap up a busy month, we’re raising a glass of Pure Tap with hopes of good health for all of you!
