Made With Pure Tap: Above the Dirt

It’s been a hot summer to say the least and it’s probably safe to say your plants and gardens are soaking up all the water they can get these days! That’s certainly true at Above the Dirt, a local gardening shop in east Louisville.

Owner Paula Henson says she’s dreamed of being the crazy plant lady for years. She and her husband drove by an empty gas station and the seed was planted. That might be the perfect spot for their dreams to bloom. From a dream to reality, the store on Taylorsville Road welcomes everyone from green thumbs to budding gardeners. Henson calls herself an enthusiastic hobbyist, but she knows one thing for sure: watering is a key to success.

“We use Louisville Pure Tap literally all day, every day. Whether it be our native plants, our house plants, the veggie garden that we grow here; we are watering one, two, maybe three times daily. And we use Pure Tap to do it. The quality of water that we have here in Louisville is actually a rather big deal!” Henson exclaimed.

It’s something she doesn’t take for granted.

“We’re buddies with other plant stores around the country and not everybody is able to simply use their tap water.” Henson said, “Here, I just can pick up a hose or a watering can. It’s actually quite nice.”

Louisville Water is proud to be able to provide one of the three things she says are necessary to care for plants and flowers. The other two according to Henson? The best light possible and humidity.
